20 injured, vehicles vandalised in N’ganj clash


At least 20 people were injured and several vehicles, including buses, were vandalised when villagers clashed during a boat race in Narayanganj on Sunday.
Due to the clash, huge tailbacks were created on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, causing immense sufferings to the people returning back to the capital after celebrating Eid-ul-Azha at their village homes.
Locals said the villagers got into the clash around 5:00pm during a boat race between Banti and Panchrukhi villages at Panchrukhi Canal in Araihajar upazila.
Local ruling Awami League lawmaker Nazrul Islam Babu was the chief guest at the programme, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
Witnesses said at one stage of the clash, the villagers started vandalising buses and other vehicles blocking the highway.
The traffic movement on the highway restored around 8:00pm, police confirmed.
