ACC challenges bail to Gen Harun

In the October 11 photo, police are taking Destiny President Lt Gen (retd) M Harun-Ar-Rashid into a prison van after a Dhaka court orders to send him to jail.
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against a High Court order that granted bail to Destiny Group President Lt Gen (retd) M Harun-Ar-Rashid in two money laundering cases.
ACC's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan on behalf of the commission filed the appeal also seeking a stay on the HC order.
The High Court on October 18 granted bail to Harun for two months in the cases filed by the ACC.
In the appeal, Khurshid Alam said the HC has granted bail to Harun, also the former army chief, considering his social position and health ground, which is not acceptable because everybody is equal in the eye of law.
Social position of an accused cannot be a ground for bail while the health condition of Harun is not so serious, he said.
Khurshid Alam told The Daily Star that the hearing on the appeal may be held at the SC on Monday.
The ACC filed the cases with Kalabagan Police Station on July 31 against 22 top officials of the group, including Harun, over laundering of Tk 3,285.26 crore.
Earlier on October 11, a Dhaka court sent Harun along with two other top Destiny bosses -- Rafiqul Amin, chairman and managing director, and Mohammad Hossain, a director -- to jail.
Harun, who is shown as director in the ACC's case documents, was granted conditional bail by the High Court on Thursday. He was released from the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Saturday.
