ব‌হদ্দারহাট ফ্লাইওভার কাজ চলছে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে। 


সবাই ৩ বার সুরা ফাতিহা ও ১ বার ইখলাস পড়ে আসুন নির্মানকারী প্রতিস্ঠানের নামে ইছালে সওয়াব পৌছায়া দেই, আর তাদের গোস্ঠীকে (বলা-মুছিবতের হাত থেকে) উদ্বার করি।

বরিশালে মেয়র নাইট সংগীত সন্ধ্যায় তারকা শিল্পী বেবী নাজনীনকে লক্ষ্য করে জুতা নিক্ষেপ করেছে উচ্ছৃঙ্খল দর্শক-শ্রোতা। এ সময় রসিকতার ছলে মঞ্চে উপস্থিত সিটি মেয়র শওকত হোসেন হিরন বলেন, গান শুনে জুতা মারেন, নতুন জুতা মারবেন, পুরান জুতা মারছেন কেন? এ নিয়ে নগরীর অনুষ্ঠানস্থলে হাস্যরসের সৃষ্টি হয়। শুক্রবার রাত পৌনে ৮টায় হাজার হাজার দর্শক-শ্রোতার উপস্থিতিতে মেয়র নাইটের উদ্বোধন ঘোষণা করেন মিডিয়া ব্যক্তিত্ব হানিফ সংকেত। সংক্ষিপ্ত বক্তব্য রাখেন প্রধান অতিথি সিটি মেয়র শওকত হোসেন হিরন। এ সময় রংবেরংয়ের আতশবাজিতে আলোকিত এবং প্রকম্পিত হয়ে উঠে বঙ্গবন্ধু উদ্যানের আকাশ। অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতেই গান পরিবেশন করেন শিল্পী প্রীতম। পরে মঞ্চে আসেন বেবী নাজনীন। তার তৃতীয় গান চলা অবস্থায় মঞ্চে জুতা নিক্ষেপ করেন সামনের সারির এক উচ্ছৃঙ্খল দর্শক শ্রোতা। পরে মেয়র হিরন সবাইকে সংযত থেকে আগত অতিথিদের সম্মান দেখাতে বলেন।

পরকীয়ায় আসক্ত বিবাহিতার পক্ষে সাফাই গাইছেন তারানা হালিম !!!

যে বিবাহিত মহিলা স্বামী থাকা সত্বেও পর পুরুষের সাথে অনৈতিক সম্পর্কে জড়িয়ে যান স্বভাবতই তিনি চাইবেন না তার স্বামী এটা জানুক,
স্বামীকে নিজ থেকে ত্যাগ না করে হাতে রেখেই এইসব মহিলারা অনৈতিক সম্পর্ক চালিয়ে যান আর ভুলের শুরুটা এভাবেই করেন যার জন্য পরবর্তীতে অনেক বড় মাশুল দিতে হয়, 

অবাক হয়ে লক্ষ করলাম আমাদের মাননীয় সংসদ সদস্যা তারানা হালিম আজকে একটি মতামত-বিশ্লেষণ উপসম্পাদকীয়তে এর পক্ষেই সাফাই গেয়েছেন,তিনি বলেছেন......

"যদি তর্কের খাতিরে ধরে নিই যে, ওই শিক্ষক অন্য কোনও সম্পর্কে জড়িয়ে পড়েছিলেন, তাই বলে তাকে নিপীড়ন করার অধিকার তো তার স্বামীর নেই। তিনি স্ত্রীকে ত্যাগ করতে পারতেন। এটা ছিল তার আইনি অধিকার "

বাহ্‌ চমৎকার,অনৈতিক সম্পর্কে জড়িয়ে দিনের পর দিন স্বামীর সাথে দূরত্ব সৃষ্টি করে সংসারে অশান্তি বাড়িয়েই যাবেন তবুও পর পুরুষকে বিছানায় সঙ্গ দেয়ার আগে স্বামীর কাছ থেকে ত্বালাক আদায় করে নিবেন না,অপেক্ষায় থাকবেন কখন স্বামী সবকিছু জানতে পেরে অতিষ্ট হয়ে নিজ থেকে ত্বালাক দেয়,

এভাবে সমস্যা জিইয়ে না রেখে অনৈতিক সম্পর্কে জড়িয়ে পরা ঐ মহিলাটির ই উচিত হবে স্বামীর সাথে সম্পর্ক ত্যাগ করার যাবতীয় পদক্ষেপ গ্রহন করা,এভাবেই অস্বস্তিকর পরিস্থিতি এমনকি পত্রিকার শিরোনাম হওয়া থেকে এড়িয়ে যাওয়া যেতে পারে। 

নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলা’র বংশধর ; রাজকীয় হীরাঝিল প্রাসাদ থেকে ঢাকা শহরের এক ছোট্ট ফ্ল্যাটে!!!!!

মুর্শিদাবাদ থেকে ঢাকা। রাজকীয় হীরাঝিল প্রাসাদ থেকে ঢাকা শহরের এক ছোট্ট ফ্ল্যাটে বসবাস করছেন নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলার নবম বংশধরেরা। একদা বাংলা, বিহার, ওড়িশার আকাশ বাতাস কেঁপে উঠতো যাদের হুংকারে, ভাগিরথীর তীরে মুর্শিদাবাদ নগরে আলোকোজ্জ্বল মহল সর্বদা সরগরম থাকতো যে দাপুটে নবাবের পদচারণায় সুবে বাংলার সেই শেষ স্বাধীন নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলার বংশধরেরা এখন ঢাকা শহরে বসবাস করছেন লোকচক্ষুর অন্তরালে, নীরবে নিভৃতে। অনেকেই তাদের খবর জানে না, অনেকেই খবর নেয় না। 


নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলা বাঙালি ছিলেন না। বাঙালির আপন ছিলেন, বাঙালির দরদি ছিলেন। তিনি বাংলার ছিলেন না কিন্তু বাংলার শেষ স্বাধীন নবাব ছিলেন। ভালবাসতেন বাংলাকে, বাঙালিকে। ১৭৫৭ সালের ২৩শে জুন পলাশীর প্রান্তরে সিরাজের পরাজয় এবং ২রা জুলাই ঘাতকের হাতে তার প্রাণ হারানোর মধ্য দিয়ে বাংলার স্বাধীনতার সূর্য অস্তমিত হয়ে যায় বহুকালের জন্য। আমাদের এই ঢাকার সঙ্গে আষ্টেপৃষ্ঠে বাধা হয়ে আছে নবাব পরিবারের দুর্দিন, দুঃসময়ের জীবন। সিরাজউদদৌলার মৃত্যুর পর তার প্রিয়তমা স্ত্রী লুৎফুননিসা, একমাত্র শিশু কন্যা উম্মে জোহরা, নানা আলীবর্দী খানের স্ত্রী আশরাফুন্নেসা সহ নবাব পরিবারের নারীদের ৮ বছর বন্দি করে রাখা হয়েছিল বুড়িগঙ্গা পাড়ের জিঞ্জিরা এলাকার একটি প্রাসাদে। স্থানীয় লোকজন ওই জরাজীর্ণ প্রাসাদটিকে এখনও জানে ‘নাগরা’ নামে।

বর্তমানে ঢাকা শহরের খিলক্ষেত এলাকার লেকসিটি কনকর্ড-এর বৈকালী টাওয়ারে বসবাস করছেন নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলার নবম বংশধরেরা। তাদের একজন সৈয়দ গোলাম আব্বাস আরেবের সঙ্গে তার ফ্ল্যাটে বসে কথা হয় এই প্রতিবেদকের। তিনি কাজ করেন ফ্রিল্যান্স সাংবাদিক হিসেবে। বর্তমানে ড. ফজলুল হক সম্পাদিত সাপ্তাহিক পলাশী পত্রিকার সহ সম্পাদকের দায়িত্বে আছেন। ওই বাসাতেই আছেন তার পিতা বিদ্যুৎ উন্নয়ন বোর্ডের সাবেক নির্বাহী পরিচালক সৈয়দ গোলাম মোস্তাফা। তিনি নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলার ৮ম বংশধর। তার প্রয়াত স্ত্রী সৈয়দা হোসনেআরা বেগম ছিলেন নবাবের স্ত্রী লুৎফুননিসার রক্তের উত্তরাধিকার। এখানেই বাস করছেন তিনি এবং তার ২ ছেলে গোলাম আব্বাস আরেব ও ইমু এবং ২ কন্যা মাসুমা ও মুনমুন।

কিভাবে তারা নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলার বংশধর? বংশতালিকার সে হিসাব দিলেন গোলাম আব্বাস আরেব। ইরান থেকে ভাগ্য অন্বেষণে বাংলায় আসা নবাব আলীবর্দী খানের কোন ছেলে সন্তান ছিল না। তার ছিল ৩ কন্যা। ঘসেটি বেগম, ময়মুনা বেগম ও আমেনা বেগম। আলীবর্দী খানের বড় ভাই হাজী মির্জা আহমেদের ছিল ৩ পুত্র। মুহাম্মদ রেজা, মুহাম্মদ সাঈদ ও মুহাম্মদ জয়েনউদ্দিন। আলীবর্দী খানের ৩ কন্যাকে বিয়ে দেন তার ভাই হাজী আহমেদের ৩ পুত্রের সঙ্গে। মুহাম্মদ রেজার সঙ্গে বিয়ে দেন ঘসেটি বেগমের। মুহাম্মদ সাঈদের সঙ্গে ময়মুনা বেগমের এবং আমেনা বেগমের বিয়ে দেন জয়েনউদ্দিনের সঙ্গে। জয়েনউদ্দিন ও আমেনা বেগমের ৩ ছেলে ও ২ মেয়ে। তাদের বড় সন্তান নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলা, অপর ২ ছেলে হচ্ছেন ইকরামউদদৌলা ও মির্জা মেহেদি। ২ কন্যা আসমাতুন নেসা ও খায়রুন নেসা। নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলা বিয়ে করেন ইরাজ খানের কন্যা লুৎফুননিসাকে। ইরাজ খানের পূর্বপুরুষরা ছিলেন মোঘল দরবারের কর্মকর্তা। সিরাজউদদৌলার একমাত্র কন্যা উম্মে জহুরা বেগম। সিরাজউদদৌলার যখন মৃত্যু হয় তখন উম্মে জহুরা শিশু। সিরাজ কন্যা জহুরা বেগমের বিয়ে হয় সিরাজের ভাই একরামউদদৌলার পুত্র মুরাদউদদৌলার সঙ্গে।

তাদের একমাত্র পুত্র শমসের আলী। তার পুত্র সৈয়দ লুৎফে আলী। তার কোন ছেলে সন্তান ছিল না। তার একমাত্র কন্যা ফাতেমা বেগম। ফাতেমা বেগমের ২ কন্যা হাসমত আরা বেগম ও লুৎফুননিসা বেগম। লুৎফুননিসা নিঃসন্তান। হাসমত আরার ছেলে সৈয়দ জাকির রেজা। তার ছেলে সৈয়দ গোলাম মর্তুজা। সৈয়দ গোলাম মর্তুজার ছেলে এই সৈয়দ গোলাম মোস্তফা। 

ঢাকা শহরে বসবাস করা নবাব সিরাজউদদৌলার বংশধরদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে মনে হয়েছে এখনও কি যেন এক ধরনের অজানা আতঙ্ক তাদের মাঝে। সম্ভবত সে আতঙ্ক থেকেই অন্তর্মুখী প্রচারবিমুখ হয়ে আছেন তারা। মিডিয়াকে এড়িয়ে চলেন, সমাজে নিজেদের পরিচয় লুকিয়ে রাখেন। ভারত সহ বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশে মীর জাফরের বংশধররা স্ব-স্ব পরিচয় দিয়ে দাপটে আছেন।

গণতান্ত্রিক সরকার কি জনদরদী? তবে কেন কৃষকরা আজ নিঃস্ব?

 

দেশে প্রতিবছরই বন্যায় ফসল নষ্ট হয়, কৃষক সর্বস্ব হারায়। সরকার কী তার খোঁজ-খবর রেখেছে? প্রাপ্ত তথ্য মতে, স্বল্প মেয়াদী শস্যের আবাদ করে সহজেই বন্যার কবল থেকে বাঁচানো যায়। যেমন কিছু ধান আসে ১০৫ দিন পর, কিছু আসে ১১০ দিন পর, অন্য ধান আসে ৯৫ দিন পর, আবার কিছু আসে ৯০ দিন পর। এখন যদি বন্যা ১২০ দিন পর আসে, তাহলে সে বন্যা ধান ক্ষতি পারবে না। এজন্য সরকারকে আন্তরিক হতে হবে। সরকার যদি হিসাবটা করে দেয়। তাহলে তার আগে ধান লাগানো হলে, উঠানো হলে, এতে আর ধান নষ্ট হবে না।

আমার উপর যখন প্রেম এসে পড়ল.. .. ( একটি ভালবাসার গল্প)

মেয়েদের ব্যাপারে আমার তেমন আগ্রহ ছিলনা কোন কালেই। তাই তনু যখন বন্ধুত্বের প্রস্তাব দিল আমি তাতে উৎসাহ দেখালাম না। কেননা আমার চারপাশ দেখে যে অভিজ্ঞতা হয়েছে তাতে বুঝতে পেরেছি কোন তরুনীর বন্ধু হওয়া মোটেও গৌরবের ব্যাপার নয়। মেয়েরা তাদের বন্ধুদের নাকে দড়ি দিয়ে ঘুরাতেই পছন্দ করে। তারপর ব্যবহার শেষে বিগলিত হাসি দিয়ে বলে, তুইতো আমার কেবলী ভাল বন্ধু মাত্র! অথচ দিনের পর দিন গরুর মত খাটানো হয়েছিল বন্ধু নামক বেচারাকে!
তনু কনুদিয়ে হালকা গুতা মেরে বললো, কিরে কি হলো তোর! কি ভাবছিস এত?
ওর দিকে শীতল চোখে তাকিয়ে বললাম, দ্যাখ আমার মোটেও কোন মেয়ের বন্ধু হবার ইচ্ছে নেই।
আমার এই কথাটায় ও মনে হল প্রস্তুত ছিলনা। বিস্মিত দৃষ্টি দিয়ে ও আমার দিকে এমন ভাবে তাকালো যেন আমি কোন ভিন গ্রহের প্রানী! কিছুটা স্লেশ মাখানো কণ্ঠে বললো আজব!! ওর হাব-ভাব দেখে মনে হল আমি আফ্রিকার কোন জংগল থেকে এই মাত্র ওর সামনে এসে দাড়িয়েছি। তাৎচ্ছিল্য দেখিয়ে ঠোট বাকিয়ে বললো 
: মামা, তুই আমারে চিনলিনা! জানিস সবুজ হইলে এতক্ষন আমারে কেফসিতে নিয়ে খাওনোর অফার করত! আর আনিসকে আমি বন্ধু না বানানোর পরও সে আমারে কত ফ্লেকিলোড দেয়? 
আমি ওর কথায় তেমন আগ্রহ না দেখিয়ে কিছুটা গ¤ী¢র স্বরে বললাম
ঃ শোন তনু, মামা শব্দটাকে তোরা বেশ স্মাটলি ব্যবহার করতে চাচ্ছিস তাই না? অথচ এটা কয়েক দিন আগেও আমরা রিকসাওয়ালা বাদামওয়ালাদের ডাকতে ব্যবহার করতাম। খবরদার কখনো আমাকে মামা ডাকবি না। আর একটা কথা বলি আমি মোটেও তোর ফেসবুকের ওয়াল নয় যে যখন যা খুশি বলবি। 
আমার এইসব আতেল সুলভ কথা-র্বাতা তনু আমলে নিলনা। বরং করুনা ভরা দৃষ্টিতে আমার মুখের দিকে তাকিয়ে রইল। আমার খুব অস্বস্থি লাগতেছিল। মেয়েদের দৃষ্টি উপেক্ষা করার সাধ্য খুব কম পুরুষেরই থাকে। আমার খুব ইচ্ছে করছে ওর হাতটা ধরতে কিন্তু আমি তা করলাম না। আমার মনকে, আমার ইচ্ছেকে আমি নিয়ন্ত্রন করলাম। জানিনা কতক্ষন পারতাম তবে সেই পরিক্ষায় আমাকে যেতে হলনা। তার আগেই তনু যথেষ্ট বিরক্তি নিয়ে চলে যাবার জন্য পা বাড়ালো। আমি খেয়াল করলাম কালো জিন্স প্যান্ট এর সাথে সাদা ফতুয়ায় ওরে ভারি সুন্দর লাগছে। ও ওড়না পরে না। ওর রুচিবোধ অতি স্মাটনেস দেখে প্রায়ই আমার মনে হয় মেয়েটা যথেষ্ট বোকা। সুন্দরী মেয়েদের সম্যসা হল তারা প্রতেকেই ভাবে যে পুরো দুনিয়াটা তার পেছনে পেছনে ঘুরছে। তার জন্য সবাই পাগল। এই ধারণা নিয়ে তারা বোকার মত আচরণ করে ঘুরে বেড়ায়। খেয়াল করছি রাগে তার বুক কাঁপছে। আমি তাতে বিচলিত হলাম না। কেননা তনু আমার গার্ল ফেরে- বা প্রেমিকা নয়। ওর রাগকে প্রশয় না দিয়ে বরং নিজেকে কেমন নায়ক নায়ক মনে হচ্ছে। মনে হচ্ছে তনু আবার হয়ত আমার কাছে ফিরে আসবে।
আমি ওর প্রতিক্ষায় বসে আছি। বেশ কিছুক্ষন পর ওর ফিরে এল। লক্ষি মেয়ের মত চুপ করে পাশে বসে পড়ল। কিন্তু ওর চোখে রাজ্যর মেঘ দেখতে পেলাম। আমি কিছু বলতে গেলাম না,পাছে শ্রাবন নামে।
ক্যাম্পাস জুড়ে রঙিন প্রজাপতির মত তরুন-তরুনীরা ঘুড়ে বেড়াচ্ছে। বাতাসে তাদের টুকরো কথা উচ্ছ্বল হাসির শব্দ ভেসে বেড়াচ্ছে। বেশ কিছুক্ষন যাবার পর আমি বললাম, 
চকবার খাবি?
তুই কেন খাওয়াবি! তুইতো আমার বয় ফেরে- না, তাইনা?
দিয়াশলাইয়ের কাঠির মত হঠাৎ করেই জ্বলে উঠল তনু। ক্রোধ ভরা দৃষ্টি নিয়ে ও আমার দিকে তাকিয়ে থাকে। তনুর দিক তাকিয়ে মনে হল ও আরো কিছু কঠিন কথা খুজছে। সে বাক্য খুজে পাচ্ছেনা। রাগে ওর ঠোট কাঁপছে। লিপিষ্টিক বিহিন ওর ঠোটের রংটা বেশ মাদকীয়। পুরো ঠোট টা যেকোন যুবকের মাথা নষ্ট করে দেবার জন্য যথেষ্ট। 
ও আসলে আমাকে ঘায়েল করে অপমান করে সুখ নেবার জন্যই ফিরে এসেছে। মেয়েরা হার সহ্য করতে পারে না। তারা সব সময় জিততে চায়। তনুর সম্যসা হল সে ভাষা খুজে পাচ্ছেনা। ঠিক কোন ভাষায় অপমান করলে আমি কষ্ট পাবো এটা ও খুজছে। বেচারীর জন্য মায়া লাগছে। ভাষার জন্য যুদ্ধ করা জাতি সঠিক সময়ে ভাষা খুজে পাবে না এটাতো হতে পারে না। আমি তাই ওরে ক্ষ্যাপানোর জন্যই বলি
ঃ কেন খাবি, আমিতো আর সবুজ নই, আনিস নই যে তোর জন্য আইসক্রিমের মত যত্রতত্র গলে পড়বো! হেংলার মত আ্যডাল্ড জোকস বলে তোকে হাসানোর চেষ্টা করবো।
ও রাগে জ্বলে গিয়ে বলে, তুই হলি ক্যাম্পাসের সবচেয়ে জঘন্ন্য চিড়িয়া! তুই আসলে খুবই বাজে... ও তোতলাতে থাকে।
এমন মুহূর্তে আমাদের সামনে একটা টোকাই টাইপের ছেলের আগমন ঘটে। ছেলেটা বেশ কয়েকটা বকুল ফুলের ছোট মালা একটা কাঠির ভেতর ঢুকিয়ে নিয়ে ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে। ও দুরে দাড়িয়ে এতক্ষন আমাদের ঝগড়া দেখতে ছিল।
কেমন আছিস বাপ? ব্যবসাপাতি কেমন?
এসব কি? ধমকে উঠে তনু।
ফুলের ব্যবসায়ি বালক হঠাৎ ধমক শুনে দৌড় দিল। কিছুটা বিস্ময় নিয়ে আমি ছেলেটার দৌড়ানো দেখলাম। কেননা ওরা এত সহযে ভয় পাবার মত নয়। ওদের সবারী একটা দল আছে। ওরাই বরং যে কাউকে হেনস্তা করতে ওস্তাত। ছেলেটার পুরাতন জিন্সের প্যান্টার পেছনের পকেটের ৯০ পাসেন্ট ছিড়ে ঝুলে আছে। সে নিরাপদ দুরত্বে গিয়ে আমাদের দিকে তাকিয়ে রইল। তার পায়ে কোন সা-েল নেই। শরীরের অবস্থাও তেমন সুবিধের না। দেখে মায়া লাগল। 
কি হলো , ঐ ছেলেটর দিকে এভাবে তাকিয়ে আছিস কেন ? 
বুঝতে পারছিনা ছেলেটা কেন আমাকে ভয় পেল! 
তনু হেসে বললো, আসলে ও তোরে নয়, আমারে ভয় পেয়েছে। তনুর চোখ মুখ ঝলমল করছে। ভেবে পেলাম না একটা বাচ্চা ছেলে ভয় পাওয়ায় তনুর এত আনন্দ হচ্ছে কেন? আসলেই সুন্দরীদের মন বোঝা বেশ কঠিন!
ঃ কয়েকদিন আগে ওরে এমন ধমক দিয়েছিলাম যে ও জীবনে আমার কাছে ঘেসবে না।
হুম। 
দীর্ঘশ্বাস ফেললাম আমি। তারপর উঠে গিয়ে ছেলেটার কাছে গিয়ে বললাম,আমারে তিনটা মালা দাও তো দেখি। সে মালা দেবার সময় বললো, ভাইয়া আপনি ঐ রাগী আপাকে মালা দিয়েন না, তাহলে কিন্তু সারা জীবন পস্তাইতে হইবো! খালি ধমক খাইবেন।
আমি হাসলাম ওর কথা শুনে।
তনুর হাতে বকুল ফুলের মালাটা দিতে ও বিরক্তি মুখে প্রশ্ন করলো, ওই ছেলেটার সাথে হাসি মুখে এতক্ষন ধরে কি আলাপ করলি?
ঃ আমি তোরে খুব ভালবাসি কথাটা ওরে জানাতেই ছেলেটা বললো তুই নাকি অনেক লক্ষি গৃহবধু হবি! হাঃ হাঃ ..
আমি ভেবে ছিলাম আমার রসিকতায় ও রাগ করবে। কিন্তু আমাকে আশ্চর্য করতেই কিনা জানিনা ও এমন ভাব দেখালো যেন কিছুই বলিনি আমি! 
তনু বসা থেকে উঠে দাড়ালো। সামনের দিকে তাকিয়ে দেখলাম দুরে বাইক নিয়ে সবুজ দাড়িয়ে আছে। বুঝতে বাকি রইল না যে তনু সবুজের কাছেই যাচ্ছে। আমি বসে রইলাম। টি শার্ট পড়ে বেরুনো উচিৎ হয়নি, কেমন ঠা-া ঠা-া লাগছে। হঠাৎ করে রৌদ্যরা লুকিয়ে যাওয়ায় শীতল বাতাসে দগ্ধ হচ্ছি। ঠা-া বাতাশটা খুব লাগছে । এক কাপ চা খেতে পারলে ভাল হত।
তনু বেশ স্বাভাবিক গলায় বললো কি হলো বসে বসে আছ কেন? উঠে আসো বলছি।
বিস্মিত হয়ে তনুর মুখের দিকে তাকালাম। ব্যাপার কি,ও তুই থেকে আমাকে তুমি বলে ডাকতে শুরু করছে কেন? ফাজলামো করছে নাতো! 
ঃ আমি উঠে কি করবো? ঐযে তোর বয় ফেরে- সবুজ দাড়িয়ে আছে। কিছুটা টিটকারীর স্বরে বললাম আমি।
ও রাগলো না। আমার হাত ধরে বললো , তমাল তোমাকে আমার দরকার। তুমি খুবই বিস্বস্ত স্বামী হইবা এটা আমি নিশ্চিত। ও আমার হাত ধরায় এখন ঠা-া লাগছে। কেমন যেন নিজেকে ভারমুক্ত শূন্য শূন্য লাগছে। ভাল লাগছে খুব। আমি উঠে দাড়াতেই ও আমার শরীর ঘেসে দাড়ায়। ওর শরীরের উত্তাপে আমার কেমন যেন লাগে। কি পারফিউম ব্যাবহার করছে ও জানিনা। তবে পারফিউমের গন্ধেই বোধ হয় আমার মাথার ভেতর কেমন ঝিম ঝিম করছে।
তনু আমার হাত ধরে হাটছে। কেন যেন মনে হচ্ছে এভাবে হেটে ও যদি আমাকে জাহান্নামেও নিয়ে যায় তাতেও আমার কোন আপত্তি থাকা উচিৎ না।
ঃ তুমি একটা অদ্ভূত ছেলে। জানো আগে করতে হয় বন্ধুত্ব তারপর প্রেম। শিখনি কিছুই। শুধু গোয়ারের মত মিছিল মিটিং নিয়ে আছ। সেদিন দেখলাম তুমি রাস্তায় দাড়িয়ে চিকা মারতেছো, ছিঃ! 
অন্য কেউ আমার রাজনীতি করা নিয়ে ছিঃ বললৈ তার দুটো দাঁত ফেলে দিতাম। কিন্তু এখন আমি কিছুই বললাম না। আমি নিরর্থক হাসি।

তনু হাটতে হাটতে একটা কাঁচে ঘেরা ফাষ্ট ফুডের দোকানের দিকে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে। কম করে হলেও তিনশত টাকা দরকার। কিন্তু আমার পকেটে আছে মাত্র একশত পনেরো টাকা। কিছুটা আতংকিত হয়ে আমি সামনে তাকালাম। বুকের ভিতর ছলাৎ করে উঠল আনিস আর সবুজ আমাদের দিকে তাকিয়ে মুচকি হেসে ফাষ্টফুডের দোকানের ভেতর ঢুকছে। আংতঙ্কিত হয়ে পড়লাম ওদের হাফভাব দেখে মনে হল সবি সাজানো। আমার পকেটের বারোটা বাজাতেই ওরা প্লান করে নেমেছে। তনু হয়ত আমাকে গাধা বানাতেই একটা নাটক করছে। আমার মনটা খারাপ হয়ে গেল।
এক ঝটকায় আমি হাত ছাড়িয়ে নিলাম। মন জুড়ে এতক্ষন যে রোমান্টিকতার জোয়ার বয়ে চলছিল তা হঠাৎ করেই থেমে গেল। আমার এই আচমকা পরিবর্তনে তনু ভীষন আশ্চর্য হল। ব্যথিত চোখে সে আমার দিকে তাকালো। ওর মুখের দিকে তাকিয়ে আমার বুকের ভেতর কেমন যেন করে উঠল। ওর চোখে কোন ছল নেই। আছে ভালবাসার গভীর আকুতি। সেই ভালোবাসাকে উপেক্ষা করার শক্তি আমার নেই।
তনু অভিমান ভরা কণ্ঠে বললো , কি হল তোমার! এমন করছো কেন?
আমি উত্তর না দিয়ে আবারও ওর হাত ধরলাম। যেন কিছুই হয়নি।
তনু বললো, তোমার জানি মনে নেই যে আজ আমার জন্মদিন। সবুজ আর আনিসকে এই রেস্টুরেন্টে আমিই ডেকেছি। আমি তোমাদের খাওয়াবো।
ও হাসতে থাকে। ওর সেই হাসি দেখে ভারি ভাল লাগে আমার। ও বলে, সেই সাথে আমি ওদের জানাতে চাই যে তুমি আমার প্রেমিক।
ও আমার হাত ধরে চাপ দিয়ে চোখ নাচিয়ে জিজ্ঞসা করে, কি? আমারে পছন্দ হয়না!
আমি ওর চোখের দিকে তাকিয়ে বলি, ভালবাসতে এত ভাল লাগে আমার জানা ছিলনা। আরো কিছু বলার আগেই আমার মোবাইলে রিং বেজে উঠে..
স্কিনে দেখি আমাদের সংগঠনের সভাপতি আনোয়ার ভাইর নাম্বার। এমন রোমান্টিক সময়ে আনোয়ার ভাইর মাথামোটা প্যাচাল শুনতে ইচ্ছে হলনা। মোবাইল অফ করে দিলাম।
তনুর চেহারা পরিবর্তন হয়ে গেল। ও সন্দেহ ভরা চোখে প্রশ্ন করে, কে ফোন দিল তোমারে? ফোন বন্ধ করলা কেন? নিশ্চয় তোমার কোন র্গাল ফেরে- আছে!
কিংকর্তববিমূঢ় হয়ে দাড়িয়ে পড়লাম। কিছু বলার আগেই চিলের মত কোথা হতে যেন উড়ে এসে সামনে দাড়ালো আনোয়ার ভাই। সে ভারি বিরুক্তি চোখে আমার দিকে তাকিয়ে কিছুটা ধমকের স্বরে বললো, কিরে তুমি ফোন ধরছো না কেন? আজ ১২টার সময় যে আমাদের প্রতিবাদ সভা আছে সেটা ভুলে গেছো! তোমারা মিয়া সংগঠনকে কোন দিনই সিরিয়াসলি নিলা না। দলটারে ডুবাই ফেলবা? কি সব কইরা বেড়াইতাছো। ভাল হও, চল এখুনি অনেক কাজ পইরা আছে।
তনু এবার চরম বিরুক্তিকর কণ্ঠে আনোয়ার ভাইরে বলে, আপনার দলরে গিয়ে বলেন আজ তমালের প্রেমিকার জন্মদিন!
তনু আমার হাত ধরে টানমেরে আনোয়ার ভাইর সামনে থেকে নিয়ে এল। আমিও অসিম সাহসে আনোয়ার ভাইকে উপেক্ষা করে তনুর হাত ধরে হাটছি। নিজেকে কেমন মুক্ত পাখির মত লাগছে।
তনুকে তবু মিনমিনে গলায় বলি দেখ আনোয়ার ভাইরে এমন ভাবে অপমান করা ঠিক হইলো, উনি যদি আমারে হল থেকে বের করে দেয়।
তনু আমার দিকে তাকিয়ে বললো তোমার হলে থাকার দরকার কি? কালই তুমি আমাদের বাসায় উঠবে।
মানে কি? প্রশ্ন করি আমি। ও হেসে বলে জানোতো আমার বাবার একমাত্র মেয়ে আমি। বাবার ইচ্ছে তিনি তার মেয়ে জামাইকে নিজের ছেলের মত করে বাড়িতে রাখবেন।
কিছুটা বিস্মিত আমি দ্বিধা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন করি তার মানে কি ঘর জামাই?
ও হেসে বলে কি রাজকন্যাসহ রাজ্যত্ব তোমার ভালো লাগেনা!
তনুর চোখের দিকে তাকিয়ে কেন যেন মনে হল ও শিকারীর মত আমার দিকে তাকিয়ে আছে।
ঘাড় ঘুরিয়ে তাকালাম আনোয়ার ভাইও শিকার ছুটে যাওয়ায় হতাশ শিকারীর মত তাকিয়ে আছে।
আমি দু’জনের মধ্যে দাড়িয়ে ভাবছি কার শিকার হব?

নীলফামারীতে কোটি টাকার বিয়ে!

নীলফামারীতে রাজকীয় কায়দায় চলছে কোটি টাকার এক বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠান। এই বিয়ের কথা এখন শহরের মানুষের মুখে মুখে। অনুষ্ঠান ঘিরে বরের বাড়ি শহরের বড় বাজারে সাজ সাজ রব। করা হয়েছে বড় বড় চারটি গেট। লাল-নীল আলোয় জ্বলজ্বল করছে বরের বাড়ি। 

বর নীলফামারী জেলা জাতীয় পার্টির সভাপতি মাহবুব আলীর ছেলে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র প্রবাসী আসাদুজ্জামান রোমান এবং কনে চাঁদপুর শহরের মোয়াজ্জেম হোসেন চৌধুরীর যুক্তরাষ্ট্র প্রবাসী মেয়ে রেবেকা চৌধুরী তৃষা। ২৫ জুন রাতে ঢাকার আর্মি গলফ ক্লাব অডিটোরিয়ামে তাঁদের বিয়ে হয়। সেই বিয়ের উৎসবের আমেজ এখন বরের নিজের শহর নীলফামারীতে। 
আজ শুক্রবার বিকেল চারটার দিকে বর-কনে হেলিকপ্টারে করে ঢাকা থেকে নীলফামারী হাইস্কুল মাঠে নামেন। তারপর ওঠেন ঘোড়ার গাড়ি টমটমে। বাদ্যযন্ত্রের তালে তালে সেই টমটম শহর ঘুরে বড় বাজার এলাকায় বরের বাড়ি পৌঁছে। 

কাল শনিবার বউ ভাতের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। আমন্ত্রিত অতিথির তালিকায় আছেন রাজনীতিবিদ, সরকারি-বেসরকারি কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীসহ বিভিন্ন শ্রেণী-পেশার পাঁচ হাজারেরও বেশি মানুষ। অতিথি আপ্যায়নে তিনটি প্যান্ডেল করা হয়েছে। গত এক মাস ধরে চলা এ আয়োজন কাজ করেছেন শতাধিক শ্রমিক।

বরের বাবা নীলফামারী জেলা জাতীয় পার্টির সভাপতি মাহবুব আলী ছেলের বিয়ে নিয়ে এমন আয়োজন সম্পর্কে বলেন, ‘প্রবাসী ছেলের ইচ্ছায় প্রায় কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে এই আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।’ তিনি জানালেন, ‘ঢাকায় বিয়ের মূল অনুষ্ঠানে জাতীয় পার্টির চেয়ারম্যান ও সাবেক রাষ্ট্রপতি এইচ এম এরশাদ, অনেক সাংসদ ও ভিআইপিসহ দুই হাজারের মতো অতিথি উপস্থিত ছিলেন। প্রতি অতিথিকে দেড় হাজার টাকার খাবার পরিবেশন করা হয়।’ নীলফামারী শহরে বিবাহোত্তর অনুষ্ঠানের খাবার তালিকায়ও ঢাকার মতো একই ধরনের আয়োজন থাকবে বলে তিনি জানান। 

নীলফামারীর অনুষ্ঠান সম্পর্কে বরের বাবা আরও বলেন, পাঁচ হাজার কার্ড বিতরণ করা হয়েছে। তবে ১২ হাজার মানুষের খাবারের ব্যবস্থা থাকবে। জানালেন, ‘বড় ছেলের বিয়ে এমন ধুমধাম করে অনুষ্ঠান করেছি। ছোট ছেলের বিয়েতেও করলাম।’ পাশাপাশি এলাকায় ২০ অনাথ মেয়ের বিয়ের ব্যবস্থা করবেন বলেও তিনি জানান।

দেবতার কাছে মেয়েটি চেয়েছে!

 

দু হাত জোড় করে যে পবিত্র মেয়েটি ঝরনার পাশে এসেছিল! মৌন প্রার্থনা ছিল তার মমতায়! ঘর ছেড়ে বেরিয়ে গেলে ঘরের হ্যাঙারে সবুজ দেবতা ঝুলতে থাকে! একটা সাদা ঝিনুকের থালা ঘন্টির মত ঢং ঢং করে বলে
যেকোনো পাতাকেই আমি করে দিতে পারি ঝলমলে আস্তিন!

গ্রহরাজকে দু মুঠোতে ধরে কুলফি মালাইয়ের সাথে মুখে পুরে দিতে পারে সমস্ত পাপের মার্জনাকারী! অথচ পবিত্র মেয়েটি বর্তমান চেয়েছিলো অতীতে!

এই দুই প্রধান কারণ সমাধান না করলে বাংলাদেশকে কোনভাবেই মাদকমুক্ত করা যাবে না।

মাদক এমন একটি কঠিন নেশা যা মাদকসেবীকে চুম্বকের মত টানে। তার ইচ্ছা বা আনিচ্ছা মাদকের নেশার কাছে হার মানে। যে কারনে একটা মাদকসেবী ইচ্ছা করলেই মাদক ছাড়া থাকতে পারে না।

মাদকসেবীদের মাদক সেবনের আন্যতম কারণ হল ‍"মাদকের সহজলভ্যতা" ও "মাদকের প্রাচুর্যতা"। ইচ্ছে করলেই হিরোইন, ফেনসিডিল, ইয়াবা, গাজা ইত্যাদি হাতের নাগালে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে। এক সাংবাদিকের বক্তব্য হল, মাদককে মাদকসেবীরাও পছন্দ করে না। বাংলাদেশের প্রতিটি এলাকাতেই মাদক সহজলভ্য। প্রায় ৪/৫ লক্ষ লোক মাদক ব্যবসার সাথে ও প্রায় ৫০ লক্ষ লোক মাদক সেবনে জড়িত।

মূল আলোচনায় আসি-
সেদিক পত্রিকায় দেখলাম, ডি এম পি কমিশনার বেনজির আহমেদ বলেছেন, “প্রতিবছর হাজার হাজার মাদক ব্যবসায়ী গ্রেফতার করছি। কোটি কোটি টাকার মাদক ধ্বংস করছি। তবুও মাদকের ভয়াল থাবা থেকে মুক্তি পাচ্ছি না। ১৯৯৯ সালের মাদকের মামলার বিচার ২০১২ সালে হচ্ছে। একজন মাদক ব্যবসায়ীকে গ্রেফতার করা হলে দুই থেকে তিন দিনের মধ্যে জামিনে বের হয়ে পুনরায় পূর্ণ উদ্যোমে মাদকের ব্যবসা শুরু করছে।"

আরো একটি মজার ব্যপার হল, বাংলাদেশ হল মায়ানমার ও ভারতের মাদকের মার্কেট। কথার সত্যতা ডি এম পি কমিশনারের কথাতেও পেলাম, তিনি বললেন "বেশির ভাগ মাদক তৈরি হচ্ছে দেশের বাইরে। মায়ানমারে ইয়াবা তৈরি হচ্ছে তার শিকার হচ্ছি আমরা। ভারত সীমান্তে ফেনসিডিল তৈরি হচ্ছে তার শিকার হচ্ছি আমরা।"

প্রথমতঃ মাদক চোরাচালান আনবরত বাড়ছে এবং দ্বিতীয়তঃ মাদক ব্যবাসায়ীদের আটক করার পর তারা জামিনে ২/৩ দিন পর জামিনে বের হয়ে আবার পূর্ণ উদ্যোমে ব্যবসা শুরু করছে (!!!!!)

মাদক প্রার্যুতার এই দুই আন্যতম প্রধান কারণ সমাধান না করলে বাংলাদেশকে কোনভাবেই মাদকমুক্ত সম্ভব হবে না।

মাদক নিয়ন্ত্রন আধিদপ্তরকে মাদক প্রসারের আন্যান্য কারনগুলো সমাধানের আগে এই দুইটি কারণ সমাধান করতে হবে। সেই সাথে বাংলাদেশ সরকারকে মাদক নিয়ন্ত্রনের প্রচলিত ধারাগুলো সংস্কার করতে হবে। যার প্রথম পদক্ষেপ হতে হবে "মাদক ব্যবসায়ীদের জন্য আজামিনযোগ্য ধারা ও তাৎক্ষনিক শাস্তি ব্যবস্থা প্রবর্তন।"
তাদের আটক করে না রেখে মাদক নিয়ন্ত্রনের চেষ্টা করা আকাশ কুসুম কল্পনা ছাড়া আর কিছুই না।

৪৭ বৃটিশ নারীকে ধর্ষণের দায়ে পাকিস্তানি চক্রের জেল

কমপক্ষে ৪৭ বৃটিশ নারীকে ধর্ষণ ও যৌন নিপীড়নের দায়ে ৮ পাকিস্তানি ও এক আফগান নাগরিকের একটি গ্রুপকে যৌথভাবে ৭৭ বছরের সাজা দিয়েছেন বৃটেনের এক আদালত। এ খবর দিয়ে ডেইলি মেইল জানায়, বৃটেনের গ্রেটার ম্যানচেস্টার ও রকডেলে এসব নারীকে নিপীড়নের আগে অ্যালকোহল পান করানো হয়। এতে বলা হয়, এসব নারীকে বিভিন্ন সময় উপহার, টাকা ও অ্যালকোহল পান করিয়ে দৈনিক একাধিক পুরুষের সঙ্গে ও সপ্তাহে কয়েকবার শারীরিক সম্পর্ক করা হতো। পুলিশ বলছে, মাতাল অবস্থায় একজন নারীকে এক রাতে ২০ জন পুরুষের সঙ্গে মিলনে বাধ্য করা হয়েছে। এতে করে দু’জন গর্ভবতী হয়ে পড়ে। যাদের একজনের বয়স মাত্র ১৩ বছর। পরে তার গর্ভপাত করানো হয়। দলটির ৫৯ বছর বয়সী লিডারকে (নাম প্রকাশ করা হয়নি) ষড়যন্ত্র, ধর্ষণ, ধর্ষণে সহায়তা, যৌন নিপীড়ন ও শোষণের দায়ে ১৯ বছরের জেল দেয়া হয়। এছাড়া গ্রুপের সবাইকে ভিন্ন ভিন্নভাবে ধর্ষণ, নিপীড়ন ও যৌনতার সঙ্গে জড়িত থাকার দায়ে বিভিন্ন মেয়াদে সাজা দেয়া হয়। স্থানীয় লেবার পার্টির সাবেক এমপি এ্যান ক্লেয়ার বলেন, স্থানীয় কর্তৃপক্ষ মাঝে মাঝে এসব অভিযোগ অবহেলা করেছে বর্ণবাদী অভিযোগ আসার ভয়ে। সাজাপ্রাপ্তদের মধ্যে আফগানিস্তানের নাগরিক সাফিকে সাজা ভোগের পর দেশ থেকে বহিষ্কার করার আদেশ দেয়া হয়েছে।

Reunion comes early for abducted baby

An eight-month-old baby girl abducted from Khilgaon in the capital was found abandoned at Mirpur about 15 hours after the incident took place on Saturday night. 

After looting a Khilgaon house, robbers had kidnapped the infant, Mobashwira Alam Mayesha, and demanded a ransom of Tk 25 lakh from her parents at around 9:30pm. 

"Take this baby to Khilgaon police station. Her father's cell phone number is…" was found written on the white dress the baby was wearing when found abandoned on the footpath under a five-storied building at south Paikpara. 

A youth informed Khilgaon police station around Sunday noon after finding the girl abandoned in the scorching sun, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) spokesperson Monirul Islam. 

"Khilgaon police and a team from its detective branch reached the spot immediately after receiving the information. Maeysha's father identified his daughter himself. We don't have any credit in the rescue," he said. 

Mayesha was taken to DMP headquarters after her rescue and from there to the Khilgaon police station. 

"I am happy to get my daughter back," said Mayeshah's father Shah Alam after receiving his daughter from the police station. 

The robbers also looted gold ornaments, money and cell phone from the house in C-Block of Khilagaon before taking away the girl. 

"We have already identified who were behind the incident. Their motive was to kidnap the girl and get ransom for her release, rather than looting," said Monirul. 

Capt Ahmed to be Biman acting MD

Capt Sheikh Naseer Uddin Ahmed will take over as the acting managing director of Bangladesh Biman Airlines on Apr 25. 

The airline's board of directors gave Capt Ahmed - currently serving as the director (planning) - the additional charge of acting MD, a Biman official seeking anonymity told bdnews24.com on Sunday. 

"Afterwards, procedures to appoint a new MD of the airlines will begin as per the provisions," he added. 

The national flag carrier's current MD Zakiul Haque is unwilling to continue in view of protests from the airline's staff and officials, who are demanding resignation of the chairman and dissolution of the entire board. 

A meeting of the board of directors was held at Biman headquarters, Balaka Bhaban, on Apr 20 where the decision to select a new MD was taken, he added. 

After serving the airline as a pilot, Capt Ahmed was also its director (flight operations). 

Some recent media reports talked of Zakiul's unwillingness to continue as the MD. 

However, the company officials declined to comment on the matter. 

"He (Zakiul) was present in Friday's meeting and attended office on Sunday, too. He will also come to office on Monday and Tuesday," the Biman official added. 

On Friday, some 200 protesters demonstrated in front of Balaka Bhaban as the board meeting commenced inside. 

"The current Biman MD will run his term next month and he has also requested against his reappointment," an official present at the meeting had told bdnews24.com. 

A retired Air Commodore, Zakiul Islam was made the MD and CEO on Jun 7, 2009. 

Shoot cyber crime complaints online now

People have been allowed to lodge complaints or make suggestions online three months after the telecom regulator formed a special team to fight cyber crime. 

"The team is receiving complaints or suggestions at contact@csirt.gov.bd from this morning. Each deserving complaint will be investigated at once followed by prompt response," said chief of the team, Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), BTRC vice-chairman Giasuddin Ahmed on Sunday. 

Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission constituted the 11-strong team on Jan 25 to detect websites that contain contemptuous content about the state and society, politics and religion. 

"Web pages found to be committing serious crime would be shut down tight away. If the offence is not serious, one will be cautioned. If unheeded, the web page will also be blocked," CSIRT chief Ahmed added. 

He said action would be taken against all criminals in accordance with the law already in force. 

A web page on cyber crime will also be launched to raise public awareness about the issue, the BTRC vice-chairman added. 

BTRC blocked five pages on social networking website Facebook and another website after a court ordered for the action over an allegation that those were hurting the religious sentiment. 

Earlier, a university teacher was jailed for posting a comment on Facebook wishing the death for prime minister Sheikh Hasina. The teacher was tried in absentia as he has been living in Australia for higher studies. 

Law provides jail term from two to five years and a fine between Tk 5 lakh and Tk 5 crore for cyber crime. 

Temples looted in Feni

Unidentified miscreants have looted valuables and vandalised four temples at Parshuram in Feni. 

Parshuram police station officer in-charge Nizam Uddin quoting members of the temples committees said that 10 to 15-strong group of miscreants attacked around 4am on Sunday. 

Three of the four temples belonged to separate families, who were also looted after the miscreants were through with vandalising the temples. The houses looted were those of Sudip Chandra Roy, Haripada Shaha and Liton Shaha. 

A case has been filed in this connection. 

Govt to probe sister concerns of Grameen Bank

The government will form a commission to look into the activities of 54 organisations associated with Grameen Bank, the finance minister has said. 

Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said this while exchanging views on the upcoming budget for 2012-2013 fiscal with Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) Sunday. 

Of the 54 organisations associated with the Nobel Peace laureate's micro-finance institution, only four to five are authorised by the board of directors of the bank, Muhith said adding that the rest are directly linked with Muhammad Yunus. 

"These organisations are not working on micro-credit in Bangladesh's rural areas. They are only operating abroad," he said. 

"I am a founder member of Grameen Bank, too. The bank was built to work on micro-credit in the country's rural areas," he added. 

An inquiry by top professionals had revealed that Grameen Bank over-stepped its legal authority to divert fund to another arm of the Grameen family in 1996. 

The five-member fact-finding committee, formed in January last year, said a 'credit account' was created in Grameen Kalyan by transferring the fund in the organisation to make the fund interest-bearing. 

The investigation report said, "It seems that the dispute regarding use/transfer of Norad aid funds for Grameen Bank has been settled. But the fund transfer to different organisations by Grameen Bank was beyond its authority (ultra vires)." 

"Grameen Bank, from its revolving fund received from Norad and other donors, transferred Tk 3.47 billion (Tk 347.18 crore) to Grameen Kalyan." 

The formation of the investigation panel followed controversy about the pioneering micro-finance institution, which shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Muhammad Yunus in 2006. Yunus was removed from the bank as its managing director later as the apex court declared valid a Bangladesh Bank claim that he was over-aged to continue. 

Controversy about the bank began in Nov 2010 when the Norwegian state television NRK ran a documentary titled 'Caught in Micro Debt' that accused Yunus, the then managing director of the bank, of transferring funds to Grameen Kalyan breaching the agreement made with the fund's donor, Norwegian aid agency Norad. 

Woman's body found at MP Hostel

Police have recovered a decomposed body of an unidentified woman from one of the buildings of the MP Hostel in the city's Sangsad Bhaban area. 

Tejgaon police deputy commissioner Imam Hossain told bdnews24.com that the body was found beside the bathroom of Block No 6 of the hostel on Sunday evening." 

"The condition of her body suggest she might have been murdered a few days back ... it has already started decomposing," he added. 

The police official had, however, told earlier that the body was recovered from one of the bathrooms of the hostel. 

Imam Hossain said the age of the deceased should be around 30 years. 

He said, "The body was recovered from a two-storey building. Of the seven flats on its first floor, only three were allotted to three MPs." 

But he could not name the MPs. 
None of the MPs generally stay in those flats, Imam said. "Sometimes their (MPs) personal secretaries stay there for work." 

UK regulator investigating Sky News over email hacking

Britain's media regulator said on Monday it had launched an investigation into Sky News, the influential news channel of Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB, which has admitted twice hacking into emails to generate a story. 

Sky News has said it sanctioned the practice because it believed the story was in the public interest, but the announcement by regulator Ofcom is likely to revive the issue, on the day the head of the channel goes before a judicial inquiry into media standards. 

"Ofcom is investigating the fairness and privacy issues raised by Sky News' statement that it had accessed without prior authorization private email accounts during the course of its news investigations," a spokesman said. 

"We will make the outcome known in due course." 

Sky News said earlier this month that it had hacked into emails in 2008 but insisted it had acted in the public interest as it shared the information with police and helped to secure a criminal conviction. 

The story involved was the bizarre case of the so-called "canoe man" who faked his own death after paddling out to sea. Sky News said the information it found was given to police and helped to secure the conviction of the man's wife. 

The admission of hacking however was seen as potentially damaging to the successful channel as BSkyB is 39 percent-owned by Murdoch's News Corp, which has itself been convulsed by a phone hacking scandal at its British newspaper arm. 

As a result, Ofcom is already looking closely at parent company BSkyB as to whether its owners and directors are fit to own a broadcast license. 

Financial and media analysts said at the time that although the timing was unfortunate, they did not see the issue as causing any long-term damage to the company. 

BSkyB declined to make an immediate comment but the head of Sky News, John Ryley has previously used his blog to say that he stood by his decision to give approval for the email hacking to go ahead. 

"As the Crown Prosecution Service itself acknowledges, there are rare occasions where it is justified for a journalist to commit an offence in the public interest," he said, when the hacking was made public earlier this month. 

James Murdoch, who stepped down as chairman of BSkyB but remains on the board, will appear before the Leveson Inquiry into press ethics later this week, as will his father Rupert, to answer questions on their relationship with politicians. 

Ryley will appear before the inquiry, which was ordered by Prime Minister David Cameron because of the News Corp phone-hacking scandal, later on Monday. 

Ofcom said it would examine the Sky News email hacking under rule 8.1 of the broadcasting code which deals with privacy issues. However, the code does state that any broadcaster wishing to justify an infringement of privacy must demonstrate why it would be warranted. 

Examples given include areas where public interest outweighs the right to privacy, such as when revealing or detecting a crime. 

"Ofcom wouldn't want to be in a position where it says we would allow a news editor to make a judgment of this kind any time they feel like it," media consultant Claire Enders told Reuters. 

"It will result in a slap on the wrists for John Ryley. We're not expecting anything serious." 

1,275 accused for Sylhet clashes

Around 1,275 BNP activists have been accused in six cases filed by the police over the clashes in Sylhet during Sunday's countrywide shutdown enforced by the opposition party. 

The cases were filed on Sunday night accusing the BNP activists of vandalism, anarchy and assaulting law enforcers during the shutdown protesting disappearance of BNP's one of the organising secretaries and Sylhet district unit chief M Ilias Ali. 

Sylhet Kotwali Police Stations's officer in charge Ataur Rahman said that two cases accusing 600 members of the newly formed BNP-led 18-Party Alliance have been filed over the clashes at Jindabazar and Bandarbazar. 

Jalalabad Police Stations's officer in charge Gousul Hossain told that sub-inspector Abdul Latif filed a case under the speedy trial act accusing 475 BNP activists, out of whom 25 have been named, for assaulting police during the clashes at Tukerbazar. 

Another 200 opposition activists were accused in three cases filed at Bishwanath Police Station for trying to besiege the station and attacking police personnel, Sylhet police super Shakhawat Hossain said. 

At least 60 persons including police personnel have been injured during the clashes on Sunday. 

Pakistan promises full probe into airliner crash

Pakistani officials on Saturday promised a full investigation into the crash of a domestic flight that killed 127 people, saying they were examining all possibilities, from a technical fault to the age of the Boeing 737 to sabotage. 

Grieving relatives claiming the remains of loved ones at a hospital expressed grief and anger over the crash in a storm as the plane approached Islamabad on a flight from Karachi, Pakistan's commercial hub. 

Armed police kept media out of the Institute of Medical Sciences in the capital where the remains were stored. 

With wreckage scattered over a square km of wheat fields, officials said there were no survivors. 

"We are trying to find out whether the life of the plane was over, whether it was a technical fault, whether it was sabotage or any other reason," Interior Ministers Rehman Malik told reporters. 

The Boeing 737-200 was more than 27 years old, according to AviationSafety.net. 

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, speaking outside the hospital, said: "Until investigations are completed, we cannot jump to any conclusions." 

Malik said the owner of Bhoja Air, Farooq Bhoja, had been barred from leaving the country to ensure his cooperation with the investigation. "Action will be taken, and will be seen to have been taken, I promise you," he said. 

Bhoja Air started flights in 1993 but suspended operations eight years later because of financial problems. It resumed domestic flights only last month. 

The plane's "black box", which records flight data, was recovered last night, rescue authorities said. 

Bhoja officials were not immediately available for comment. 

Many of the relatives gathered at the hospital had flown up from Karachi on Saturday morning for the task of identifying victims. Women and men sobbed openly and pushed reporters away. 

"My brothers are gone! My brothers are gone!" wailed Mohammad Shahzad, slumping to the ground by the hospital entrance. 

One brother had been identified, he said, the other remained missing. Both had been on a day-long business trip linked to the transport company run by the three siblings. 

"We don't know what to tell the kids, we don't know what to tell my mother," Shahzad said. "They keep calling. I told them there was an accident and we don't know anything yet." 

Ayesha Ishaque pressed her face against a light brown wooden coffin labelled "Body 140". Her brother, Mohammad Saud Ishaque, had been returning home from studies in Karachi. 

"Why has God done this to my brother," she wailed. 

BODY PARTS 

Some gurneys with body parts in bags were taken inside. Also visible were clear plastic containers with bone fragments with labels like "bone from foot", "bone from arm" and "rib". 

Three men from the national database agency were taking a cigarette break from identifying the bodies from fingerprints. 

"We've identified at least 73 bodies so far, and at least 25 will have to be sent for DNA testing because their hands and digits could not be read," said one man, clearly exhausted, his latex gloves and blue overalls covered with blood stains. 

A coffin periodically passed through the crowd with a piece of paper on top bearing the victim's name and identification number. Bystanders threw rose petals over the grim procession. 

Security was intensified at Islamabad's Benazir Bhutto International Airport. Some women had their bags emptied and each item checked. 

"I'm feeling okay to fly," said Mohammad Ehsan, 47, an engineer who had been scheduled to travel on the plane on the return flight to Karachi that it never made. 

"I was in shock last night. When I saw the pain and grief the relatives were feeling I just couldn't think of taking a flight last night. I am grateful for being alive." 

In July 2010, an AirBlue jet slammed into the mountains ringing Islamabad on a foggy morning, killing all 152 aboard. Two other crashes that year killed 33 people. 

Pakistan is rated a category 1 by the US Federal Aviation Authority, which means it meets international standards for air safety.
