IGP declines to share progress

The police chief on Saturday declined to share any information about the progress of investigation into the killing of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
When journalists inquired about the progress report on the investigation which the investigators submitted to the High Court, Inspector General of Police Hassan Mahmood Khandker disclosure of the information might be a contempt of court.
The IGP was talking to journalists at a prize giving ceremony at the Rajarbagh Police Lines.
When asked about the progress of the probe into the killing of Saudi embassy official Khalaf Al Ali, the police chief claimed that police have made “significant progress”.
He however declined to say anything further “for the sake of the investigation”.
Sagar Sarowar, a news editor at the private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter for ATN Bangla, were found dead in their West Rajabazar flat on February 11.
Meantime, Saudi national Khalaf Al Ali, who joined the embassy about two years ago, was shot dead some 30 yards off his Gulshan house on March 6.
