Three people were killed and three injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur and Chittagong Saturday morning.
Traffic
movement on Dhaka-Mymenisngh highway remained suspended for an hour as
garment workers blocked the highway protesting the accident in Gazipur
that killed one of their fellow workers.
UNB reports, Tito,
an employee of Ananta Garments, was crushed under the wheels of a bus
while he was crossing a road at Gazipura area in Tongi at 7:45am.
Being
outraged, fellow workers put up barricade on the road disrupting
vehicular movement on Dhaka-Chittagong highway for an hour.
The workers also ransacked some passing vehicles on the highway.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.
In
Chittagong, two persons were killed and three injured as a
Chittagong-bound truck from Dhaka hit an oncoming three-wheeler at
Noyduari in Mirersarai upazila around 6:30am, said Rafique Ahmed
Majumder, a sergeant of highway police.
Two auto-rickshaw
passengers – Narayan Chandra Daldash, 35, and Bhola Chandra Das, 40, —
died on the spot, the police official said.
Three injured persons including driver of the three-wheeler were rushed to a local hospital.
Police seized the truck but the driver and the helper managed to flee the scene.
