290 BRTC buses by May: Obaidul

DHAKA: Communications Minister Obaidul Quader categorically said that a shipment of 290 buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will reach here by May.

He said, “In order to reduce traffic jam new 290 buses will be introduced on roads withdrawing small BRTC buses. Of those, 100 buses will be given to school students in the city.”

He came up with the disclosure Sunday while addressing a programme arranged on the occasion of 92nd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Mirpur Government Bangla College in the city.

Obaidul Quader said, “Evil person will come to power if the brilliant students do not join politics and those who want to do something good for the country, join politics.”

Indicating opposition BNP, he added that the speaker allowed opposition leader Khaleda Zia to deliver her speech for 1.53 hours, which contained bad words to Prime Minister, but the opposition still alleged that they are not given floor to talk in the parliament.

With Principal of the college Professor SM Majfur Hossain in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by Director-general of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Professor Md Noman Ur Rashid and Aslamul Haq MP.
