10 received Independence Award

Ten distinguished persons of the country have been awarded with Independence Medal-2012 as recognition for their nationally glorious and prideful contribution in the country.

The Prime Minister Sunday conferred the award to them at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in city.

Sheikh Hasina said, “I am glad to honor these legendary persons in our country through my own hand. I congratulate them for their achievement. I hope the next generation will follow them to work for our country.”

The goal of the liberation war was to get financial relief, to realize people’s right and to make Bangladesh uplifted before the world, the premier added.

The award recipients are-- The No. 2 accused in the `Agartala conspiracy case` Shaheed Lt Commander Moazzem Hossain, the then sub-divisional officer of Sirajganj and organizer of Liberation War Shaheed Abul Kalam Shamsuddin, Dr Syeda Badrun Nahar Chowdhury and Nayeem Gahar in liberation war; Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Professor Pran Gopal Datta in medical science; Professor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam in education; former vice-chancellor of Chittagong University Abul Fazal (posthumous) in literature; Dr Kazi M Badruddoza in research and training; Bazlur Rahman (posthumous) in journalism, and Dr Quamrul Haider in science and technology.

Each recipient was given Tk 2 lakh, a gold medal and a certificate.
