Shahara against time-bound probe

Journalist couple Meherun Runi and Sagar Sarwar.
Home Minister Shahara Khatun on Tuesday declined to set a deadline for completing the investigation into journalist couple murder.
The minister made the statement a day after a 48-hour timeframe she had given the law enforcers for putting the killers of Meherun Runi and Sagar Sarowar behind bars ended.
Runi, senior reporter of private TV channel ATN Bangla, and her husband Sarowar, news editor of another private TV station Maasranga, were stabbed to death at their West Rajabazar apartment early Saturday.
Like the law enforcers, the minister also refrained from disclosing any information, though she claimed “substantial progress” while talking to reporters at a function at Bangladesh Coast Guard headquarters in the capital Tuesday.
“A good news may come any time,” the minister said indicating the arrest of the killers.
Asked whether anyone have been detained in connection with the murder, she declined to disclose it for the sake of fair investigation.
Shahara urged journalists to refrain from spreading any rumour regarding the reason of the murder and the identity of the killers.
The home minister attended the programme organised to mark the 17th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
