GD over threat to PM's life

A general diary has been filed with the Shahbagh Police Station in the city over 'death threat' to prime minister Sheikh Hasina through social networking website Facebook.

A B Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jononetri Parishad, an organisation backed by the ruling Awami League, filed the GD on Monday noon, officer in-charge Sirajul Islam told bdnews24.com.

Siddique is the editor of Bangla daily 'Bhorer Alo'.

According to the GD, Hafizur Rahman, a lecturer of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), issued the threat to the prime minister.

OC Sirajul said Siddique sought security of life of the prime minister and requested police to take necessary steps in this regard.

"We'll forward the GD to the court and seek permission for investigation. After we get the permission, legal steps will be taken against him (the BUET teacher)," he added.

The High Court on Jan 4 this year ordered six-month jail to a Jahangirnagar University teacher for contempt of court in connection with a 'derogatory comment' about the prime minister on Facebook.

The teacher had wished of the death of the prime minister on his Facebook status.
