No army in DCC polls: CEC

Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed
Satisfied with Dhaka's law and order, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed turned down the issue of deploying army in the upcoming elections to the bifurcated city corporations.
"Why do you exaggerate a small matter to a big one by raising the issue of army deployment," he retorted, speaking to journalists after a preparatory meeting on the DCC polls due in May.
The CEC assures that all-out measures will be taken to ensure security for the voters and to make the elections free from muscle power.
At Tuesday's meeting, the commission decided to appoint its officers as returning officers for the elections to Dhaka South and Dhaka North city corporations.
Elections commissioners and officials were present at the meeting.
