Biman staff strike for 48hrs from Apr 16

Pilots, officials and staff of Biman Bangladesh Airlines will go on a 48-hour strike from April 16 demanding resignation of the Biman chairman and members of the board of directors.
No flight (of Biman) will take off and all kinds of administrative works will be stopped, leaders of the agitating Biman staff said.
The announcement came from a sit-in programme held at the lounge of Balaka Bhaban, head office of the national flag carrier, at Kurmitola in the city.
The agitating Biman staff demanded that Biman's chairman and board members resign immediately taking liability of what they claimed Tk 1,000-crore loss that the company incurred due to their inefficiency.
They also threatened to go on an indefinite strike if their demands were not met 24 hours after the 48-hour strike ends.
Several hundred pilots, officials and employees of the national flag carrier started the demonstration around 11:15am.
The demonstrators under the banner of ‘Biman Bachao Oikya Parishad’ have been continuing demonstration since March 5 to press home their demands.
Additional police were deployed around the Balaka Bhaban to ward off any untoward incident.
Earlier on March 21, the Biman staff threatened to go for indefinite strike if the demands were not met by March 26.
Earlier on several occasions, the Parishad staged demonstrations in front of Balaka Bhaban to press home their demands.
