The central bank on Wednesday issued approval to three new banks sponsored by non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs).
The Bangladesh Bank Board gave the approval at a meeting with its Governor Dr Atiur Rahman in the chair.
The central bank however did not decide about giving approval to 37 new private banks.
“The board will take a decision regarding the private banks on April 8,” SK Shur Chowdhury, BB deputy governor, told reporters after the meeting.
UK expatriate Iqbal Ahmed and US expatriates Nizam Chowdhury and Farashat Ali are the main sponsors of the three NRB banks.
