Counsel for Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee boycotted International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday as its chairman Justice Nizamul Huq sat for hearing a review petition filed against a tribunal order that framed charges against Sayedee.
Meanwhile, the court rejected the review petition of Sayedee, an accused of committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Defence counsel Tajul Islam told reporters that they will continue boycotting the tribunal until Nizamul Huq abstains from the trial proceedings or the tribunal disposes of a petition filed by the defence seeking explanation of the reasons why he will continue as the chairman of the tribunal.
Seeking the reasons, the defence counsel submitted the petition before tribunal’s Deputy Registrar Mesbahuddin Ahmed in the morning.
The tribunal termed the boycott as unwarranted and unbecoming.
Later, the court rejected the review petition of Sayedee considering that the petition was not moved before it.
It also fixed Sunday for hearing the petition.
The tribunal on October 3 framed 20 charges against Sayedee including genocide, killing, abduction and torture in 1971.
Sayedee filed a petition on October 27 with the tribunal for reviewing the order. The tribunal then fixed today (November 16) for hearing the review petition.
