15 BNP men hurt in AL attack in Patuakhali

At least 15 BNP activists were injured when Awami League men allegedly attacked a motorcade of former home minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury in Sadar upazila of Patuakhali this morning.
Hossain who was the president of Patuakhali district BNP unit however escaped unhurt, reports our correspondent.
The motorcade came under attack when Hossain along with his henchmen were going to attend a rally of BNP-led 18-party opposition combine at Badarpur in Sadar upazila.
Of the injured SM Abdur Rob, president of Krishak Dal of the district unit, has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from Patuakhali General Hospital around 11:00am as his condition was stated to be critical.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Patuakhali Police Station, confirmed the incident.
He said on information police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
A group of 20 to 25 AL men attacked the motorcade around 9:30am in Telekhali area while it was on way to a party programme at Badarpur in Sadar upazila, said Golam Rahman, office secretary of district unit of BNP.
At least 15 BNP men sustained injuries in the attack, he added.
Of the injured, five admitted to Patuakhali General Hospital while others to different local clinics.
