Panicky Dhaka sees violence

The city dwellers witnessed violence as a deep fear of panic swept through the capital centring the 18-party alliance’s anti-government rally at Suhrawardi Udyan.
Miscreants torched a bus and blasted at least eight crude bombs in Matsya Bhaban, Shahbagh, Katabon and Shewrapara.
Unknown miscreants set fire to a bus of Shimanto Paribahan on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue near Star Kabab restaurant around 6:05pm shortly after opposition leader Khaleda Zia’s speech.
Nearby fire service units rushed to the spot and doused the fire, a duty officer at the Fire Service Control Room told The Daily Star.
The passengers managed to evacuate, avoiding any injuries, he added.
Unidentified criminals set fire to an office of the ruling party in Mirpur Section 11 in the afternoon, Abdul Latif Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, immediately after the end of opposition rally miscreants blasted two crude bombs near Kataban and two more near the Shishu Park in Shahbagh.
A petrol bomb which was thrown near the Matsya Bhaban did not go off.
The bombs are blasted to create anarchy among the people, said policemen on duty in the area.
Earlier around 2:40pm, four cocktails were hurled at an alley in Shewrapara around assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Pulok of Kafrul Police Station
