AL calls for hartal withdrawal

Mohammad Nasim at press conference
Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim addresses at a press briefing at Dhanmondi office of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina after opposition rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
The ruling Awami League has urged opposition leader Khaleda Zia to withdraw its three-day hartal call and sit for dialogue to form an all-party polls-time government.
AL presidium member Mohammad Nasim made the call minutes after Khaleda announced the 60-hour hartal from 6:00am Sunday asking the government to initiate a dialogue over her polls-time government formula.
The former home minister also urged the BNP chairperson to take preparation for election withdrawing the decision to enforce hartal.
Terming the opposition chief’s speech at Suhrawardy Udyan as “hostile” and “baseless”, he said: “Khaleda Zia has chosen the way of terror avoiding the path of consensus.”
The AL leader also called Kahleda to take part in dialogue responding to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s call saying the premier might invite her soon to talks over election-time government.
Protesting the BNP chairperson’s remark terming the present government “illegal”, Nasim said the government as well as the Jatiya Sangsad would remain in power legally till January 24 next year as per the constitution if the prime minister wished for it.
