One fisherman died while another two went missing after their boat collided head on with an oil tanker and capsized in the Karnaphuli river near Totar Baper Hat area in Patiya upazila of Chittagong yesterday around 4:00pm.
The deceased is Mohammed Hossain, 30, and the missing are Babul, 33, and Younus, 35, all residents of the upazila’s Char Pathar Ghata Union. The remaining 16 fishermen on the boat were rescued by police and Coast Guard Bangladesh.
Police seized the tanker, MV Sky One, and detained the helmsman, Md Kamal. Search for the missing was ongoing till filing of this report at 10:00pm.
The fishing boat, MV Ma Saharbanu, was sailing for the Bay of Bengal.
