State minister for local government, rural development and cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak said the government had taken an initiative to set up samabaya bazaar, a kind of cooperatives market, throughout the country under the Department of Co-operatives.
Under the initiative, the government will set up samabaya bazaar at each of the ward in the capital during the current fiscal year and subsequently at every upazila throughout the country, said the state minister for LGRD at a ‘meet-the press’ organised at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka on Friday on the eve of the 40th National Co-operatives Day to be observed today.
‘The government already has set up 80 samabaya bazaar in different places including the capital city Dhaka and will extend those to the upazila level within the current fiscal year’, Nanak said, adding that with the directives of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, the samabaya bazaar would also be set up in all the city corporation areas.
The prime minister will inaugurate the ‘rural development and cooperative fairs’ throughout the country and also inaugurate ‘cooperative bazaar exchange’ through a video conference as chief guest from the Bangabandhu International conference centre today marking the 40th National Cooperatives Day.
The prime minister would also distribute the National Cooperative Awards of 2009 and 2010 among the successful cooperatives organisers of the country.
About the importance of the cooperatives, the state minister for LGRD said the government had a plan to increase the number of cooperative entrepreneurs as successful cooperative ventures were essential
for improving socio-economic condition in the country.
The main theme of the 40th National Cooperative Day is ‘Creation of cooperative entrepreneurs is the farsightedness of the youths’.
The ‘meet- the press’ programme was attended, by registrar of the department of cooperatives Musfiqa Iqfat and other high officials from the cooperatives division under the ministry.
