2 killed in B’baria, Madaripur clashes


Two persons were killed and 40 injured in separate clashes in Brahmanbaria and Madaripur Sunday morning.
Of the victims, Yasin Miah, 25, died in Brahmanbaria and Fazlul Haque Akand, 45, in Madaripur.
In Brahmanbaria, the supporters of Madan Miah and Taher Miah, former union parishad members of Bhairabnagar union, locked in a clash at a local Bazar in Nabinagar upazila around 7:00am following an altercation over a trivial matter.
Both the groups attacked each other with bamboo sticks and sharp weapons during the clash that continued for two hours.
At one stage of the clash, Yasin, a supporter of Taher Miah, was hit by a spear and died on the spot, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nabinagar Police Station.
On information, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the feuding groups. They picked up five people in connection with the killing.
The injured were admitted to different local hospitals.
There has been a long-standing conflict between the two UP members following establishing supremacy over the village, the OC said
Our Madaripur correspondent reports, Fazlul was killed and 10 were injured when the victim engaged in a clash with his cousin Badsha Akand over a piece of disputed land in Bhadrason area of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur in the morning.
Fazlul died on the spot when Badsha stabbed his cousin with a sharp weapon during the clash, said Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Shibchar Police Station.
None was arrested in this connection till filing of the report.
Fazlul and Badsha had a long-running dispute over the land, the OC said.
