HABIGANJ: At least 40 people were injured in a bloody clash between two groups of villagers over a trifle dispute at Macrampur village under Baniachong upazila on Tuesday morning.
Of the injured, Parvez Mia, 20, and Babul Mia, 30, were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition while the rests were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital.
Local sources said one Jahir Mia and his brothers beat their neighbor Abu Mia’s wife Renu Begum up as her ducks used to swim in Jahir’s pond, leaving her injured on March 5.
Centering the incident, two groups of villagers locked into a clash at about 7am on Tuesday, leaving at least 40 people injured on both sides.
Baniachong thana OC Nirmalendu Chakrabarty told banglanews, “On information, police rushed in and took the situation under control.”
