MUNSHIGANJ: Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan on Tuesday noon visited the spot in order to monitor the salvage operation of sunken launch MV Shriatpur-1.
After monitoring the rescue operation, the minister told journalists, “We have formed three separate probe committees. They have already started investigation. The next initiative will be taken on basis of probe report.”
He expressed his deep shock at the deaths as missing of passengers. He also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Earlier, at least 26 passengers died and over 200 went missing as a launch capsized in the Meghna River after a cargo boat hit it in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj early Tuesday.
Coast Guard divers and police, in a joint-effort, recovered 19 bodies, including two women and a minor, from Meghna river till 12:50 pm, banglanews correspondent reports.
