Doctor summoned for wrong treatment

DHAKA: The High Court Tuesday summoned a doctor of National Institute of Eye Science & Hospital (NIESH) to appear before the court on March 25 for his alleged wrong treatment to a patient.

The court also asked Director General of Directorate General of Health Sciences (DGHS) to submit a report to the court in 30 days after complying with the order.

The High Court issued the rule upon the government to explain in two weeks why punishment should not be given to Dr Abdullah Al Kafi for his wrong treatment to the patient.

A High Court bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order on Tuesday.

Health secretary, DG of DGHS and the alleged doctor were made respondents to the rule.

Earlier, Md Abdur Rahim Khan, a teacher of Mohammadpur Gauchhia Islamia Fazil Madrasa and also local Olama League leader became blind due to wrong operation in his eyes.

Earlier, a Bengali daily published a report headlining ‘Madrasa teacher lost eyes due to wrong treatment’.

Citing the report, Deputy Attorney General Barrister ABM Altaf Hossain filed the petition with the court.
